Yumi Matsutoya, born on January 19, 1954 in Hachioji, Japan, is a renowned pop rock singer-songwriter, composer and pianist. She is widely recognized by her stage name Yuming and has established herself as one of the most successful solo artists in Japan with over 42 million records sold.
Matsutoya’s professional music career began as a studio musician in 1968 before she made her debut as a singer-songwriter in 1972. Her music gained immense popularity in the 1980s and she became associated with Mitsubishi Motors’ advertising campaigns due to her widespread appeal.
Originally from Hachioji, Tokyo, Matsutoya married musician Masataka Matsutoya in 1976.
