About Yael Averbuch
Yael Averbuch, born on November 3, 1986 in New York City, is a professional soccer player known for her career as a midfielder in the National Women’s Soccer League. She has also represented the United States on the women’s national soccer team and played for various clubs including the Washington Spirit, New Jersey Lady Stallions, Sky Blue FC, Western New York Flash, FC Kansas City, Sweden’s Kopparbergs-Goteborg FC and Russia’s WFC Rossiyanka.
Prior to her professional career, Averbuch achieved recognition as a club soccer player during her teenage years with multiple honors such as USYSA and NSCAA All-American titles. She continued her success at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she contributed to two NCAA College Cup championships in 2006 and 2008.
Beyond sports, Averbuch has showcased her talents outside of soccer by writing for Our Game Magazine and securing a sports blogging position with the New York Times. Born to Paul Friedman and Gloria Averbuch into a Jewish family in New York City; she grew up alongside her sister Shira who also pursued collegiate soccer at Stanford University.
