Wendy Watson Nelson, born on May 31, 1950, in Canada, is a Canadian-American marriage and family therapist, professor, and religious author. She is known for her work as the wife of Russell M. Nelson, the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Prior to her current role, Wendy received an RN certification from the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing in 1970. She then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1973 and a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy at Brigham Young University in 1975.
Notably, Wendy has contributed to academic work through articles and her book Beliefs: The Heart of Healing in Families and Illness. Her research has helped develop a practical and theoretical framework for family systems nursing with a focus on treating families as the “unit of care.”
Family-wise, she was born Wendy Watson and grew up in Raymond, Alberta as the second child among three siblings to Leonard and Laura McLean Watson. In 2006 she married Russell M. Nelson while he was serving as a member of the LDS Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles at that time.
