She is known for her work in television, including portraying Karen McNeil in the series The Job from 2001 to 2002 and Dana Kleinman in the series Listen Up! from 2004 to 2005. In addition, she starred as Dorothy in the biographical film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood released in 2019.
Makkena’s career began with her first TV role as Katie Timmons in the 1986 television series Santa Barbara. Notably, she also played Sister Mary Robert in the films Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.
