About Vivien Merchant
Vivien Merchant was a stage and screen actress born in England on July 22, 1929. Known for her work in stage productions and her Oscar-nominated role in the film Alfie, she is perhaps best remembered for marrying playwright Harold Pinter and starring in several of his productions such as The Room, The Lover, and The Homecoming.
Before achieving fame as an actress, Vivian met her future husband during a production of Witness for the Prosecution by Agatha Christie. Their marriage brought them a son two years later but was marked by Pinter’s infidelity leading to Vivien struggling with alcoholism which sadly led to her premature passing at the age of fifty-three.
