About Viorica Viscopoleanu
Viorica Viscopoleanu (born August 8, 1939) is a former Ukrainian-born long jumper who achieved international acclaim as an Olympic athlete. She represented Romania at the Olympics in 1964, 1968 and 1972. Notably, she secured a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics and also set a new world record in long jump.
Prior to her Olympic success, Viscopoleanu started her international career at the 1962 European Championships and went on to attend and win at the European championships in both 1969, 1970, and again in 1971. In addition to her continental achievements, she held the title of Romanian long jump champion from 1962-70 and resumed this victory once more in the year of 1973.
