Vanity (born January 4, 1959) was a Canadian pop singer and actress best known as the lead singer of the 80s music trio Vanity 6. She passed away in 2016.
Before achieving fame, Vanity worked as a model for local beauty pageants during her teenage years, winning the title of Miss Nigeria Hospitality in 1977. Born Denisa Katrina Matthews, she adopted the stage name “Vanity” in 1980 at the suggestion of her mentor, Prince.
In addition to her musical career, Vanity had high-profile relationships with Prince from 1980-1983 and Nikki Sixx from 1983-1986. She was also briefly married to Oakland Raiders player Anthony Smith from 1995 to1996.
