About Ursula Hegi
Ursula Hegi, born on May 23, 1946 in Düsseldorf, Germany, is a prominent German-born American novelist. Her notable work includes the 1994 novel Stones from the River which was featured in Oprah’s Book Club in 1997. Other renowned pieces by her include Floating in My Mother’s Palm and Salt Dancers.
Prior to gaining fame as a writer, Hegi attended the University of New Hampshire and later served as a creative writing professor at Eastern Washington University.
She has been recognized for her literary contributions with accolades such as a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and five PEN Syndicated Fiction Awards.
Having moved to the United States at eighteen years old, Hegi later acquired American citizenship after getting married there.
