Tina Smith is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party. She began serving as a United States Senator from Minnesota in 2018, after previously being appointed as the 48th lieutenant governor of Minnesota in 2015.
Smith was born on March 4, 1958 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Stanford University before going on to have a successful career in politics.
Prior to her time as a senator and lieutenant governor, Smith served as the vice president of external affairs at Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
Smith is married to Archie and they have two sons named Sam and Mason. Her parents are Christine, who worked as a teacher, and F. Harlan, who was a lawyer.
