Thandiswa Mazwai is a highly acclaimed South African world music singer and songwriter, born on November 11, 1976 in Mqanduli, South Africa. She is most famously recognized for pioneering the kwaito music movement and her lasting contribution to the music industry with rhythmically diverse and lyrically commentative musical pieces.

Mazwai has performed at high-profile events around the world including the 2010 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony, the Cannes Film Festival, and the BBC World Music Awards.

Prior to her fame as a solo artist, Mazwai started her musical career as a member of the band Jack-Knife before becoming the lead vocalist and songwriter for Bongo Maffin.
