About Sylvia Pankhurst
Sylvia Pankhurst, born on May 5, 1882 in England, was an influential politician and suffragist leader in early twentieth-century Britain. She played a prominent role in the Women’s Social and Political Union and the Labour Movement before founding the East London Federation of Suffragettes and later establishing the Communist Workers Party. Sylvia grew up in Manchester as the daughter of Emmeline and Richard Pankhurst alongside her sister Christabel, with whom she campaigned for women’s rights. Notably, Sylvia founded the publication Women’s Dreadnought (later changed to Workers’ Dreadnought) to voice her opposition to World War I. Additionally, she had a son named Richard Pankhurst with anarchist Silvio Corio.
