About Sydney, Lady Morgan
Sydney, Lady Morgan was born on December 25, 1781 in Dublin, Ireland. She gained widespread fame as an Irish novelist, particularly known for her work “The Wild Irish Girl,” which became popular upon its release in 1806 and reached its fourth US edition by 1807.
Prior to gaining recognition as a novelist, she began her writing career by penning poetry and achieved wider acclaim with her 1804 novel “St. Clair.” A bust of her head is included in London’s Victoria and Albert Museum as well as at David d’Angers’s personal museum.
Morgan published companion novels titled “France” in 1817 and “Italy” in 1921. She was married to English writer and surgeon Sir Thomas Charles Morgan.
