About Suzanne Lenglen
Suzanne Lenglen (1899-05-24) was a French tennis player who earned international acclaim, winning 31 Championship titles from 1914 to 1926. Despite suffering from chronic asthma as a child, her father trained her in tennis to build up her strength and endurance.
Lenglen made history by defeating seven-time tennis champion Dorothea Douglass Chambers at Wimbledon in 1920 and also won two gold medals and one bronze medal at the 1920 Olympics. Sadly, she passed away from pernicious anemia in 1938 at the young age of 39.
In recognition of her exceptional career, Lenglen was posthumously inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1978.
