About Susie O’Neill
Susie O’Neill, born on August 2, 1973 in Queensland, Australia, is a former competitive swimmer known as “Madame Butterfly” due to her remarkable career. She earned 8 Olympic medals and has also worked as a commentator for the 2006 Commonwealth Games and co-hosted Nova 106.9’s morning radio show.
In addition to her swimming achievements, O’Neill serves as an ambassador for the Fred Hollows Foundation. She attended Lourdes Hill College where she set numerous school swimming records before making her international debut at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, winning gold and silver medals.
Among her accolades are the Australian Sports Awards’ Female Athlete of the Year in 1996 and being named Favorite Female Sports Star at the Australian People’s Choice Awards in both 1998 and 1999.
O’Neill is married to Cliff Fairley and they have two children together.
