About Susan Aglukark
Susan Aglukark, born on January 27, 1967 in Canada, is a world music singer known for her blend of pop and country with Canadian Inuit traditional music. Her hit single “O Siem,” along with her Juno Award-winning albums Arctic Rose (1992) and Big Feeling (2003), and her Triple Platinum album This Child (1995) have contributed to her fame.
Before starting her singing career, Aglukark began singing while working for Canada’s Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami organization. She gained recognition in the early 1990s through a CBC special focusing on entertainers from the Arctic region.
In addition to her musical career, Aglukark has also worked on behalf of non-profit organizations formed to aid Inuit and aboriginal young people. Born into an Inuk family, she spent her early days in Manitoba and most of her childhood in Arviat, Northwest Territories. Her song “Kathy” addresses the suicide of her niece.
