About Sue Monk Kidd
Sue Monk Kidd (born August 12, 1948) is an American novelist and playwright best known for her acclaimed work “The Secret Life of Bees” (2002), which was adapted into a stage production in New York as well as a film. With Christian and feminist themes prevalent throughout her writing, some of her other notable works include “When the Heart Waits” (1990) and “The Dance of the Dissident Daughter” (1996).
Prior to pursuing a writing career, Kidd graduated with a B.S. in nursing from Texas Christian University and worked as a registered nurse. Her interest in writing spiked after having an essay published in Guideposts magazine.
She was born in Sylvester, Georgia and later married Sanford “Sandy” Kidd. One of her novels, “The Mermaid Chair”, was transformed into a Lifetime movie adaptation.
