About Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh
Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, was born on January 20, 1965 in England. She gained prominence upon her marriage to Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex in 1999 and received the title Sophie, Countess of Wessex. In March 2023, her husband was made Duke of Edinburgh and she is now referred to as “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh.” Together with Prince Edward, they have two children: Lady Louise Windsor (born in 2003) and James, Viscount Severn (born in 2007).
Before becoming a member of the royal family, Sophie studied at Kent College Pembury and West Kent College Tonbridge before working as a public relations employee at Capital Radio. Her royal duties have taken her on trips to various countries such as Canada, Bahrain, Trinidad and Tobago among others.
Besides being an active supporter for over 70 charities where she works on issues including disabilities rights and women’s rights among other social causes; Sophie was born as Sophie Helen Rhys-Jones in Oxford to Mary O’Sullivan and Christopher Bournes Rhys-Jones.
