About Sonja Eve Christopher
Sonja Eve Christopher (born January 28, 1937) is an American reality star, best known for being a contestant on the very first season of Survivor: Borneo. Born in Olympia, Washington, Sonja was a member of the Tagi Tribe but became the first person to be eliminated in the entire Survivor franchise.
Before her reality TV fame, Christopher pursued higher education at institutions such as Whitman College, University of Oslo, University of Washington and finally earned a degree in psychology from University of California, Berkeley. She also worked in various roles including investment counselor, tennis coach and elementary school teacher.
In addition to being recognized as the first lesbian Survivor contestant and oldest woman to compete on the show at that time; she utilized her $2,500 consolation prize from Survivor towards financing church expansion efforts. Furthermore impacted by personal challenges following her cancer diagnosis; she’s continued working part-time as a music therapist leading sing-a-longs specifically at Alzheimer’s centers.
Sonja remains resilient since going into full remission post-treatment battling invasive breast cancer diagnosis back in 1997.
She has one son and after coping with abandonment by her long-term partner during her battle with cancer – continues to contribute positively within both relevant professional contexts and through public appearances – like attendance at TV Show’s special events such as “Survivor”’s 10-year Anniversary Party held In 2010.
