Sonia Rykiel was a prominent French fashion designer, born on May 25, 1930. Known as “The Queen of Knits,” she gained renown for her innovative designs and is particularly celebrated for the creation of the iconic Poor Boy Sweater. Prior to achieving international acclaim in the fashion industry, Rykiel began working at a textile store during her teenage years.
Regarded as one of the world’s most elegant women, Rykiel was included among the top ten in 1980. Throughout her career, she authored multiple books and even collaborated with British musician and fellow fashion designer Malcolm McLaren on the 1995 song “Who The Hell Is Sonia Rykiel?”.
