Silvana Mangano was an Italian movie actress, born on April 21, 1930 in Rome. She gained fame for her role in the 1949 film Bitter Rice, which was produced by her then-husband Dino De Laurentiis. The couple were married for nearly 40 years and Silvana is best known for appearing in Dune, a film that he produced.
Before pursuing a career in acting, Silvana worked as a model to support her family and even won the Miss Rome pageant in 1946. Her daughter Giada De Laurentiis went on to host several shows on the Food Network.
