About Silk Smitha
Silk Smitha was an Indian movie actress born on December 2, 1960. She gained fame for her roles in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu films. One of her most memorable portrayals was as Silk in the 1979 film Vandichakkaram which led to her adopting the stage name Silk Smitha.
Before entering acting, she worked as a makeup artist and started performing after being mentored by actor and director Vinu Chakravarthy. She received praise for her performance in the 1981 movie Alaigal Oyivathillai.
Born Vijayalakshmi to Sarasamma and Ramallu in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, India, she tragically took her own life at the age of thirty-five.
