About Sierra Schmidt
Sierra Schmidt is a freestyle swimmer born on May 6, 1998, in Scottsdale, Arizona. She gained recognition for winning a gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle at the 2015 Pan American Games and has since qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in both 2016 and 2020.
Prior to her swimming career, Schmidt graduated from the University of Michigan where she achieved numerous accolades including being a six-time CSCSAA All-American, a Big Ten champion, and receiving several academic honors such as Big-Ten Distinguished Scholar and CSCAA Scholar All-American.
An interesting trivia about Sierra Schmidt is that during the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials, she finished 6th in the 400 meter freestyle, 8th in the 800 meter freestyle, and 7th in the1500 meter freestyle – qualifying for all three distance finals along with only two other swimmers.
Outside of her accomplishments as an athlete, Sierra hails from Erdenheim,Pennsylvania where she comes from a family deeply rooted in sports. Her mother Mindy was a track and field and cross country star at Michigan while her father Joseph also pursued trackand cross country at their Alma mater.
