Shirley Caesar, born on October 13, 1938 in Durham, North Carolina, is a Grammy Award-winning gospel singer and pastor. Known as the First Lady of Gospel Music, she began her career in the 1950s and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Recording Academy in 2017.
Caesar made her first gospel recording at the age of 12 in 1951. She has released seventeen albums and achieved eleven Grammy Awards and seven Dove Awards throughout her illustrious career.
She was married to Bishop Harold I. Williams from 1983 until his passing in 2014.
