Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, born on November 12, 1978 in Karachi, Pakistan, is a renowned journalist. She gained international recognition as the first non-American to win the Livingston Award for Young Journalists. Before her rise to fame, she attended Smith College and produced her debut documentary, Terror’s Children.
In 2012, Obaid-Chinoy achieved further acclaim when her film Transgenders – Pakistan’s Open Secret won the Platinum Remi Award at the 45th WorldFest Film Festival. Her impactful work has earned her both an Emmy and an Oscar.
Obaid-Chinoy continues to make waves in journalism while proudly representing her birthplace of Karachi.
