About Shalani Tharaka
Shalani Tharaka is a Sri Lankan actress and model known for her work in feature films and television. She was born on November 15, 1990, in Sri Lanka.
Tharaka’s career began after winning the Sirasa Kumariya beauty pageant in 2007, which led to her modeling work. In 2009, she made her acting debut as Subha in the television series Poojasanaya. Tharaka is recognized for her roles in films such as Nela (2018) where she portrayed the titular character, and for her appearances on ITN shows like Sanda Hangila and Haras Paara.
Prior to pursuing a career in entertainment, Tharaka studied Western and Kandyan styles of dancing while attending college. Additionally, she participated as a contestant on the second season of the reality competition series Sirasa Dancing Stars.
Born and raised in Balangoda by her mother Suraji Fernando—a beautician and cosmetic artist—Tharaka has carved out a successful career within Sri Lanka’s entertainment industry.
