About Sarojini Naidu
Sarojini Naidu, born on February 13, 1879 in India, was an Indian independence activist and poet. She is best remembered for her poetry collections including “The Golden Threshold” and “The Broken Wing,” as well as individual poems such as “In the Bazaars of Hyderabad” and “The Snake-Charmer.” Naidu was a child prodigy who was encouraged by her father to pursue a career in science or mathematics; however, she chose to focus on poetry instead. Widely beloved in India, she earned the nickname “The Nightingale of India.” Naidu had five children with her husband, Dr. Muthyala Govindarajulu.
