About Sarah Gertrude Shapiro
Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, born on February 19, 1978 in Santa Barbara, California, is a screenwriter and director best known for co-creating the Lifetime series UnREAL. The show is based on her short film, Sequin Raze. In 2012, she was selected to be a part of the American Film Institute’s Directing Workshop for Women.
Shapiro began writing at an early age and attended a film class at Santa Barbara City College when she was 16 before pursuing studies in fiction writing and filmmaking at Sarah Lawrence College. She has also worked as a producer on reality shows such as High School Reunion and The Bachelor.
She comes from a family where her father Perry was a professor and her mother Diane Wolf; she has one sibling named Elizabeth Shapiro-Garza.
