About Sarah Webster Fabio
Sarah Webster Fabio (born January 20, 1928) was an African-American poet, author, and teacher. She is known for her works including Mirror, a Soul and Black Talk: Shield and Sword. Her best-known poetic work is Rainbow Signs, a seven-volume collection published in 1973.
Fabio was born in Nashville, Tennessee and began writing poetry during her high school years. She continued her education at Spelman College and Fisk University. In the early 1960s she relocated to the San Francisco area where she became associated with the West Coast branch of the Black Arts Movement.
She later taught at the University of California, Berkeley where she created a Black Studies department thus contributing significantly to African-American studies.I
She had five children with her husband Cyril Fabio.
