Sara Gideon is a Democratic politician born on December 4, 1971 in Rhode Island. She first began her political career representing the 48th district in the Maine House of Representatives in 2012 and later ran for the U.S. Senate in the 2020 general election against Susan Collins.
Before entering politics, she interned for U.S. Senator Claiborne Pell and worked at USA Today as an advertising account executive.
Gideon was elected to the Maine House of Representatives in both 2012 and re-elected again in 2014. In addition, she was selected as Speaker by the House in 2016.
In 2001, Sara Gideon married Benjamin Rogoff with whom she has three children.
