About Samarria Brevard
Samarria Brevard (born September 22, 1993) is an American professional skateboarder hailing from Riverside, California. She gained widespread recognition after competing in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo as part of the inaugural USA Olympic skateboarding team.
In 2014, Brevard made history by becoming the first African-American female skateboarder to win the Kimberly Diamond Cup Women’s Street Championship in South Africa. Her impressive track record includes a fifth-place finish at the 2016 X Games and a second-place finish at X Games Minneapolis 2017, which led to her promotion to pro status.
Before transitioning to skateboarding, Brevard initially pursued basketball. It was not until she was thirteen that she began skating, following in the footsteps of her brothers and cousins. Her talent quickly became evident when she secured first place at the Supergirl Am Jam 2011 in Venice Beach and later joined Hoopla Skateboards team.
Beyond her accolades as a skateboarder, Brevard achieved noteworthy feats such as executing a Tre Flip down an eight-stair drop at X Games Minneapolis 2017. Additionally, she openly shares her personal experiences with mental health issues and advocates for various political causes through her Facebook fan page with over 70,000 followers.
Brevard’s journey has also been marked by personal challenges such as parental divorce which led to depression impacting her training regimen.
