About Safi Faye
Safi Faye is a Senegalese ethnologist and filmmaker, born on November 22, 1943, in Dakar, Senegal. She is best known for being the first woman from Sub-Saharan Africa to direct a commercial feature film.
Before pursuing her career in filmmaking, Faye obtained her Ph.D. in Ethnology from the University of Paris.
Despite her significant contributions to cinema, she has never received a major award in the industry.
Faye was born and raised in Dakar.
