About Ruth Ozeki
Ruth Ozeki (born March 12, 1956) is a Japanese-American fiction writer, Zen Buddhist leader, and filmmaker. She is known for her award-winning novels including My Year of Meats, All Over Creation, and A Tale for the Time Being.
Before gaining recognition as a novelist, Ozeki’s 1995 film Halving the Bones was screened at the Sundance Film Festival. The movie depicted her real-life journey to transfer her deceased grandmother’s bones from Japan to the United States.
Ozeki has received numerous honors throughout her career including the American Book Award, the Kiriyama Prize, and the National Book Critics Circle Award.
Born in Connecticut to an American father and Japanese mother, she later married artist Oliver Kellhammer and lived in both New York City and British Columbia, Canada.
