About Ruby Smith
Ruby Smith (born August 24, 1903) is an American blues singer known for recording twenty-one sides from 1938 to 1947. Born in New York, she gained recognition for her renditions of cover songs, including “Draggin’ My Heart Around” by Alex Hill.
Prior to fame, Smith accompanied her aunt by marriage, the renowned blues singer Bessie Smith, on tour in 1924. During these tours, she assisted with costume changes and performed dance routines during intermissions.
Originally named Ruby Walker at birth, Smith later adopted the stage name Ruby Smith.
She was born into a musical family in New York.
