About Robin McKinley
Robin McKinley is an acclaimed writer of children’s literature and fantasy fiction, born on November 16, 1952 in Ohio. She is best known for her works such as Sunshine, The Blue Sword and the Newbery Medal-winning book The Hero and the Crown.
Prior to her writing career, McKinley studied at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania before graduating from Bowdoin College in Maine. Many of her fantasy novels are feminist re-workings of popular fairy tales, with Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast being one notable example.
McKinley grew up in Ohio as the daughter of a United States Navy officer and a school teacher. She eventually relocated to England with her husband Peter Dickinson, who is also an author.
