Roberto Saviano was born on September 22, 1979, in Naples, Italy. He is an international journalist and author known for his investigative reporting on organized crimes and the Italian Mafia. Saviano gained fame with his bestselling books Gomorrah and ZeroZeroZero.
He is also known for creating the Italian TV crime series Gomorrah based on his book. Before gaining recognition, Saviano began his journalism career writing for publications such as Pulp, Diario, and Sud in 2002.
Saviano has faced constant death threats due to his book Gomorrah, which exposes the Naples mafia. As a result, he has had to live under police protection. He grew up in Naples and studied philosophy at the University of Naples Federico II.
