Roberta Peters was born on May 4, 1930, in The Bronx, New York. She was a renowned soprano opera singer and a mainstay of opera companies for over three decades. She appeared in shows like Lucia di Lammermoor.
Peters started voice lessons at the age of thirteen after being encouraged by a well-known opera tenor. Her talent quickly became evident as she rose to stardom in the world of opera.
In 1998, Peters received the National Medal of Arts for her significant contributions to the world of opera.
She married Robert Merrill; however, their marriage ended in divorce after two years.
