About Roberta Bondar
Roberta Bondar is a Canadian astronaut, neurologist, and the first Canadian woman to travel to space. She was born on December 4, 1945, in Canada. Bondar is also recognized as Canada’s first female astronaut and the first neurologist in space.
Bondar pursued her education in medicine at McMaster University and earned several other degrees from various universities. Her achievements led to her induction into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.
In addition to her accomplishments in space exploration and medical research, she is known for founding The Roberta Bondar Foundation. This not-for-profit charity focuses on promoting environmental awareness.
During Space Shuttle mission STS-42, Bondar conducted experiments in the Spacelab. Throughout her life, family has been an important part of Bondar’s world; she grew up with one sister named Barbara.
