About Ria Hall
Ria Hall, born on May 15, 1983 in New Zealand, is a popular Maori singer and World Music Singer. She gained recognition as a television presenter on Maori TV’s AIA Marae DIY from 2012 to 2013. Her self-titled debut EP won Best Maori Album at the 2012 New Zealand Music Awards.
Prior to her fame, Ria performed the traditional Maori performing arts style Kapa Haka from early childhood and later joined the Kapa Haka group Waka Huia. After relocating to Wellington, she founded a reggae band called Hope Road in 2006.
She has also served as the lead vocalist at the opening ceremonies of the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Ria hails from Ngai Te Rangi and Ngati Ranginui descent and has been an advocate for aboriginal awareness issues throughout her career. Growing up in Maungatapu with three older sisters, these experiences have shaped her identity as an artist and activist.
