Raisa Smetanina is a Russian cross-country skier born on February 29, 1952, in Russia. She is known for her remarkable achievements in the sport, having won a total of 10 Olympic medals, including four gold medals.
Before gaining international recognition, Smetanina’s career took off when she secured her first gold medal at the 1974 World Championships. Her exceptional performance continued to shine at the Olympics in 1976 where she clinched two golds and one silver medal.
