Poonam Mahajan, born on December 9, 1980 in Mumbai, India, is a prominent politician associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party. She currently serves as a Member of Parliament from Mumbai North Central and gained further recognition as the National President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) from December 2016 to September 2020. Notably, she is only the second woman in history to hold this position within BJYM.
Before her political career, Mahajan was an advocate for animal rights and environmental conservation. Following the tragic murder of her father in 2006, she joined the Bhartiya Janta Party and initially focused on mobilizing youth voters in south Mumbai during the Lok Sabha elections. Her subsequent victory in the closely contested Mumbai North Central seat during the 2014 Indian general elections further solidified her status as a force within Indian politics.
Mahajan’s influence extends beyond politics; she has also made significant contributions to sports administration. Notably, she served as President of the Basketball Federation of India, earning distinction as its first female leader.
