About Phyllis Schlafly
Phyllis Schlafly, born on August 15, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri, was an American attorney and conservative activist known for her anti-feminist views. She gained prominence for her vocal opposition to the women’s Equal Rights Amendment of the 1970s and in 1972 founded the conservative organization called the Eagle Forum.
Before entering into activism, she graduated with honors from Washington University in St. Louis and later received a graduate degree in government from Radcliffe College. Despite losing a congressional campaign in 1952 to liberal politician Charles Melvin Price, Schlafly continued to advocate for her conservative beliefs.
In 1949, she married John Fred Schlafy Jr., with whom she had four sons and two daughters.
