Pernilla August, born on February 13, 1958 in Sweden, is a notable Swedish actress, screenwriter and director. She is best known for her role as Shmi Skywalker in the Star Wars prequel films.
Before gaining fame in film, August started her career as a theater actress and made her film debut in 1979’s Giliap.
She achieved critical acclaim by winning the Best Actress Award at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival for her performance in The Best Intentions. Throughout her personal life, August has been married to novelist Klas Ostergren and award-winning Danish director Bille August.
