Peggy Parish (born July 14, 1927 in Manning, South Carolina) was a renowned children’s author known for creating the beloved Amelia Bedelia book series. In addition to the Liza, Bill & Jed mysteries, she also wrote several standalone works for young readers.
Parish earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of South Carolina before embarking on her career as an author. Her first children’s work, Littlest Raccoon, was published some years later.
One of Parish’s most famous characters is Amelia Bedelia, who captivates young audiences with both her unique culinary creations and her literal interpretation of everyday situations. Following Parish’s passing in the late 1980s, her nephew Herman Parish continued the legacy by contributing to the Amelia Bedelia book series.
