Patricia Bath, born on November 4th, 1942 in New York City, was an accomplished inventor, academic, and ophthalmologist. She is best known for her significant contribution as the first woman to serve on the faculty of the Jules Stein Eye Institute. Dr. Bath also made pioneering advancements in laser cataract surgery.
Prior to gaining recognition for her innovative work in ophthalmology, Patricia Bath graduated from Howard University’s College of Medicine in 1968. Her contributions extended beyond the operating room – she authored over 100 academic papers and lectured across four continents during her distinguished career.
A native of Harlem, New York, Patricia Bath was married to Benny J. Primm until his passing in 2015; they had a daughter named Eraka who later pursued a career as a psychiatrist.
