About Orlan
Orlan is a French artist born on May 30, 1947. She is known for her project “The Reincarnation of Saint-Orlan,” which involved multiple plastic surgical self-transformations. Orlan also gained recognition for her series “Tableaux Vivants,” which she worked on from 1967 to 1975.
Prior to achieving fame, Orlan began her career as a performance artist in France and changed her name to Orlan after the Saint in 1971. Notably, she founded the first online contemporary art magazine in 1982.
She was born and raised in Saint-Etienne, France and currently works as a teacher.
