About Onyeka Onwenu
Onyeka Onwenu, born in Nigeria on January 1, 1952, is a Nollywood actress and gospel singer known for her contributions to both secular and non-secular music. Her work often addresses serious topics such as AIDS, women’s rights, and national peace. Additionally, she has served as a judge on the Nigerian version of The X Factor reality competition.
Prior to her fame as an entertainer, Onwenu earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations and communication from Wellesley College. She later pursued a master’s degree in media studies from The New School for Social Research.
Beyond her musical endeavors, Onwenu has been active in politics. She began her career working with the United Nations and gained recognition for authoring the acclaimed documentary titled “Nigeria: A Squandering of Riches.” Notably, she has also served on the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture and worked as the CEO of the National Centre for Women Development.
Onwenu is the youngest daughter of Nigerian politician D.K Onwenu.
