About Nichelle Nichols
Nichelle Nichols is an African-American actress known for her iconic role as Lt. Uhura on the television series Star Trek, which she appeared in from 1966 to 1969. Born on December 28, 1932, in Robbins, Illinois, she made her acting debut in the short-lived musical Kicks and Co before joining the cast of Star Trek.
Throughout her career, Nichols also reprised her role as Lt. Uhura in multiple Star Trek movies and amassed over 60 on-screen acting roles. Before venturing into space on the USS Enterprise, she sang with renowned musicians Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton.
Aside from her successful career, Nichols married Foster Johnson in 1951 and had a son named Kyle.
