About Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a Nigerian economist who served two terms as Minister of Finance and briefly as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. She was born on June 13, 1954, in Ogwashi-Ukwu, Nigeria, to Professor Chukwuka Okonjo and her mother. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala attended the International School Ibadan before graduating with honors from Harvard University in 1977. In 1981, she obtained a PhD in regional economic development from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
She worked for the World Bank and was nominated for the presidency of the organization in both 2007 and 2012 but did not secure the position either time. In addition to her work as an economist, she also served briefly as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs before resigning due to political differences with former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala is married to Ikemba Iweala, and they have four children.
