About Natalia Ponce De Leon
Natalia Ponce De Leon (born August 8, 1980) is a Colombian businesswoman and activist known for her work in campaigning for a law targeting perpetrators of acid attacks throughout Colombia.
Prior to gaining attention as an activist, Natalia became the victim of an acid attack in 2014 when Jonathan Vega threw a liter of sulfuric acid on her while visiting her mother in Santa Barbara. The incident led to extensive reconstructive surgeries on her face and body.
Her efforts and personal experience resulted in the creation of a new law bearing her name which defines acid attacks as a specific crime and increases the maximum sentence to 50 years in jail. This achievement was also documented in her book titled “The Rebirth of Natalia Ponce de Leon”.
Born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, Natalia continues to advocate for justice and awareness surrounding these violent attacks.
