About Myrna Mack
Myrna Mack, born on October 24, 1949 in Guatemala, was an anthropologist and civil rights activist known for her advocacy for the rights of the indigenous Mayan people in Guatemala. She tragically became a martyr for her cause after being murdered by a military death squad due to her criticism of the Guatemalan government. Her killer was tried before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in Costa Rica. Before embarking on her civil rights activism, Mack studied Anthropology at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.
Her mixed heritage included a Chinese mother and a Mayan father.
